On November 30, 2025, during the first ODI between India national cricket team and South Africa national cricket team at the JSCA International Stadium, Ranchi, Virat Kohli delivered one of the most significant innings of his career — a masterful knock that brought him his 52nd One Day International (ODI) century. With this innings, Kohli didn’t just add another ton to his name — he surpassed a record held for decades by Sachin Tendulkar, setting a new benchmark for excellence in international cricket.
Most centuries in a single format: With 52 ODI hundreds, Kohli becomes the first cricketer in history to reach such a number in one format — overtaking Tendulkar’s 51 Test centuries. This was also his 25th ODI century on home soil, making him the first batter in 50-over cricket to reach that landmark.
The century was Kohli’s 6th ODI hundred against South Africa, the most by any batter against that nation in this format. He reached the ton in just 102 deliveries, while also blasting five sixes — a demonstration of both his class and aggression.
Though Kohli has retired from Test cricket earlier in 2025 — ending with 30 Test centuries in a decorated red-ball career. — his current focus on ODIs has allowed him to continue building his legacy. As per comprehensive records, across formats he has amassed over 80 centuries internationally.
