Asian Games 2026: Shooter Neeru Dhanda Named India’s Women’s Flag-Bearer for Closing Ceremony

NEW DELHI — In a proud moment for Indian sports and the Indian Armed Forces, Army trap shooter Naib Subedar Neeru Dhanda has been selected as India’s women’s flag-bearer for the closing ceremony of the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

The decision was confirmed by India’s deputy chef de mission, Anjali Bhagwat. The parade will take place on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at the Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium in Nagoya.

A Historic Campaign in Nagoya

Dhanda’s selection comes on the back of an extraordinary performance at the Games, where she emerged as one of India’s most successful athletes with a three-medal haul:

 Gold (Women’s Individual Trap): Made history as the first Indian woman to capture an individual Asian Games gold medal in a shotgun discipline. She set a Games record in qualification (118/125) and an Asian record in the final (28/30).

 Gold (Mixed Trap Team): Partnered with Kynan Chenai to secure the top spot on the penultimate day of shooting.

 Silver (Women’s Trap Team): Teamed up with Manisha Keer and Aashima Ahlawat to claim second place.
