NEW DELHI — James Bond is returning to the big screen. Casino Royale, the game-changing 2006 spy thriller that introduced Daniel Craig as MI6 agent 007, is set to make a triumphant return to theatres worldwide in October 2026 to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
The announcement was confirmed across social media channels by Amazon MGM Studios, featuring Craig himself in an homage to his iconic 007 debut. While exact dates and regional showtimes are yet to be disclosed, the studio confirmed a release window set for October.
A Franchise-Redefining Masterpiece
Released in 2006, Casino Royale is widely credited with rescuing the James Bond franchise from stylistic fatigue. Directed by Martin Campbell, the film discarded campy gadgets and far-fetched plots in favour of a gritty, visceral origin story that grounded the suave secret agent with emotional depth and human vulnerability.
The movie proved to be both a critical darling and a box-office powerhouse:
Box Office Success: Grossed over $600 million globally, becoming the highest-grossing James Bond film at the time of its release.
Critical Acclaim: Boasts a 94% critics’ approval rating and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Star-Studded Ensemble: Featured a memorable supporting cast including Eva Green (Vesper Lynd), Mads Mikkelsen (Le Chiffre), Judi Dench (M), Jeffrey Wright (Felix Leiter), Caterina Murino, and Giancarlo Giannini.
The Search for the Next 007
The theatrical re-release comes at a pivotal juncture for the long-running franchise. Following Daniel Craig’s emotional exit in No Time to Die (2021) after a 15-year tenure, Amazon MGM Studios and EON Productions are actively working to chart the future of the character.
As excitement builds for the October theatrical run, industry buzz continues around who will inherit the legendary Walther PPK. A shortlist of high-profile actors—including Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Jack Lowden, Paul Mescal, Jack Barton, and Harris Dickinson—has frequently emerged in casting discussions for the next iteration of James Bond.
For fans eager to experience Craig’s brutal, high-stakes poker showdowns and high-octane chase sequences on the big screen once more, Casino Royale returns to theatres this October.
