After the terrible terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, on Pahalgam, Jammu, Mayawati, the head of BSP Mayawati has called for political unity and condemned divisive tactics. The attack left 26 dead, mostly tourists, which is one of the most brutal civilian attacks in the region in recent years.

Mayawati emphasized the need for all political parties to support the government’s actions in response to the tragedy. She criticized the Congress party for engaging in “dirty politics” by displaying a ‘gayab’ (missing) poster of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting that such actions create confusion among the public. The need at this juncture is national unity, not national disarray.
Mayawati also cautioned against the misuse of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s name in political discourse related to the incident. She warned that if parties like the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress continue to involve Ambedkar’s legacy inappropriately, the BSP would consider taking to the streets in protest.

The Pahalgam attack involved five to six terrorists opening fire on a group of tourists in the Baisaran meadow, a location accessible only by foot or horseback. The incident has led to heightened tensions and a re-evaluation of security measures in the region.

Mayawati’s statements highlight the importance of unity and responsible political conduct in the face of national tragedies, urging all parties to prioritize the country’s well-being over partisan interests.
