NEW DELHI — Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest tentpole, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, has scripted history at the Indian box office on its opening day. Driven by massive fan frenzy, the superhero blockbuster starring Tom Holland and Zendaya registered a historic opening in India, surpassing previous record-holders like Avengers: Endgame, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan.
According to box office tracking platform Sacnilk, the Destin Daniel Cretton directorial grossed an astonishing ₹72.44 crore (₹60.60 crore nett) across all language dubs in India on its opening day (Thursday, July 30).

With its Day 1 haul, Spider-Man: Brand New Day now holds the title for the highest opening day ever for a Hollywood release in India.
It comfortably beat the previous records held by:
Avengers: Endgame — ₹65 crore gross (₹53.60 crore nett)
Avatar: The Way of Water — ₹48.75 crore gross (₹40.30 crore nett)
The superhero film also outperformed major Indian tentpoles on Day 1, including Pathaan (₹67.19 crore gross). What makes this feat even more remarkable is that Spider-Man: Brand New Day achieved these figures without relying on block bookings.

Trade analysts predict that if the current momentum holds through the extended weekend, Brand New Day could challenge Avatar: The Way of Water (₹477.50 crore) and Avengers: Endgame (₹445 crore) to become the highest-grossing Hollywood film of all time in India.
About the Film
Serving as the 38th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a direct sequel to 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, the film marks director Destin Daniel Cretton’s first outing with the web-slinger.
