Khulna (Bangladesh): Motaleb Shikdar, a senior labour wing leader of the National Citizens Party (NCP), was shot at a house in Khulna’s Sonadanga area on Monday morning, police and party officials confirmed.

The unidentified attackers opened fire while Shikdar was inside the residence, leaving him seriously injured. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors said his condition is critical but stable.

Police have launched a probe to identify the assailants and determine whether the shooting was politically motivated or linked to personal rivalry. Special teams have been formed, officials said.

The National Citizens Party condemned the attack, calling it a targeted assault on a grassroots labour leader. Party leaders demanded immediate arrests and enhanced security for workers.

Security has been tightened in parts of Khulna following the incident. No arrests had been made at the time of filing this report.

Bangladesh has witnessed sporadic political violence in recent months, raising renewed concerns over law and order ahead of upcoming political developments.
