NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday made a passionate appeal to citizens across the nation to actively participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign 2026. Highlighting the movement as a powerful reflection of India’s unity, Shah urged the public to join Tiranga Yatras, hoist the national flag at their homes, and contribute toward the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Home Minister stressed that this year’s celebrations hold special emotional significance as they coincide with the 150th anniversary of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s national song, Vande Mataram.

“The #HarGharTiranga campaign, initiated by PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji, is a reflection of our nation’s collective strength, uniting us in our endeavour to build a Viksit Bharat,” Amit Shah stated in his post. “The movement, which coincides with the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram this year, makes the occasion even more heart-stirring for every patriot.”

How Citizens Can Join the Har Ghar Tiranga Movement

The Union Home Minister outlined key ways for the public to get involved during the campaign week:

Tiranga Yatras & Rallies: Participate in local community marches and bike rallies carrying the national flag.

Mass Singing of Vande Mataram: Engage in synchronized renditions of the national song at public gatherings and educational institutions.

Digital Participation: Hoist the tricolour at home and upload a photo or selfie on the official web portal, harghartiranga.com.

Prime Minister’s Push for National Pride

Amit Shah’s call follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message to the nation a day earlier. On August 9, PM Modi emphasized that the national flag serves as a continuous source of inspiration for every Indian to serve the country.

The Prime Minister expressed delight that the 2026 edition of the campaign closely integrates Vande Mataram, honoring 150 years of the iconic anthem that fueled India’s freedom struggle.

Nationwide Celebrations: August 9 to August 17

Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat officially launched the nationwide campaign in New Delhi on August 6. Running from August 9 to August 17, the 2026 drive marks the fifth consecutive year of the initiative, which first launched in 2022 as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

To mark the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, the Ministry of Culture has introduced special features for this year’s edition:

1. Interactive Portal: The Selfie with Tiranga feature on the portal now includes background scores and lyrics of Vande Mataram.

2. Audio-Visual Learning: A 5-step online tutorial is available on the official portal to guide citizens on the correct rendition of the national song.

3. Exhibitions: Historical exhibitions documenting the origin and impact of Vande Mataram are being set up across major public centers nationwide.

What began in 2022 as a government initiative has transformed into a massive public-led movement, with millions of households voluntarily displaying the tricolour every August.
