CHENNAI / NEW DELHI — Sangeetha Sornalingam, wife of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, has officially withdrawn the divorce petition she had previously filed in a local court in Chengalpattu. Following the application for withdrawal, the court accepted the plea and officially closed the legal proceedings.
The decision comes amid heightened political and media attention surrounding the top leader of Tamil Nadu’s ruling administration.
Case Closed in Chengalpattu Court
According to sources familiar with the matter, legal representatives acting on behalf of Sangeetha submitted the application to retract the petition earlier today. After reviewing the submission, the presiding magistrate in the Chengalpattu local court recorded the formal withdrawal, effectively ending the matrimonial dispute in court.
While specific reasons for the withdrawal were not immediately stated in the official court filing, sources close to the development indicated that both parties sought to settle the matter without further public litigation.
Background on the High-Profile Legal Matter
The initial filing had drawn widespread national attention due to Vijay’s prominent status as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and founder of his political party. Vijay and Sangeetha were married in August 1999 and have two children together, Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha.
Neither Chief Minister Vijay nor Sangeetha has released a public statement regarding the court’s latest order at the time of publication.
