Renowned Indian actor Pradeep Rawat, best known for portraying iconic villainous roles in blockbuster films like Ghajini and Lagaan, has passed away following a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 72.

The heartbreaking news was officially confirmed by his manager on Wednesday. Rawat, who had been undergoing treatment for cancer over the past few months, breathed his last surrounded by family members and close friends.

A Legacy of Unforgettable Villainy

Pradeep Rawat was a legendary figure in both Bollywood and South Indian cinema. With a career spanning over three decades, his commanding screen presence, deep voice, and intense portrayals made him one of the most memorable antagonists in Indian film history.

His career reached monumental heights with his role as the main antagonist, Ghajini Dharmatma, in Aamir Khan’s 2008 blockbuster Ghajini—a performance that cemented his status as a household name across India. Before Ghajini, Rawat gained widespread acclaim for playing Devva in the Oscar-nominated film Lagaan (2001).

Beyond Hindi cinema, he was a massive presence in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada films, famously starring in hits like Sye (2004), Chatrapathi (2005), and Jagadam (2007). He originally shot to national fame as Ashwatthama in B.R. Chopra’s iconic television series Mahabharat.
