Shehzad Poonawalla Drops BJP Title on X, Reshares Clips on Exiting Active Politics

By Political Bureau | New Delhi Chronicle

NEW DELHI — Speculation in national political circles intensified after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla updated his social media profiles and reshared interview clips hinting at an exit from active electoral politics.

While media reports cite sources indicating that a resignation letter citing personal reasons has been submitted to party leadership, neither the BJP high command nor Poonawalla has issued an official confirmation.

Profile Redesign and Reshared Interview Clips

The political commentary surrounding Poonawalla shifted beyond a standard profile update when he posted a screenshot of his revamped bio on X (formerly Twitter) with the simple caption, “My updated bio.”

His updated X bio dropped all mention of his designation as BJP National Spokesperson, instead stating:

“Religion: Islam, Culture: Hindu, Ideology: Bhartiya. Author: GST Ki Yatra; Lifelong follower of PM Narendra Modi.”

Simultaneously, Poonawalla retweeted previous interview clips discussing his intentions regarding active politics. In those clips, he emphasized that serving the nation does not strictly require holding an electoral role or a political position, adding that social service remains a broader objective. He also disclosed that achieving the goal of a third term for the NDA under PM Modi fulfilled his primary political objective.

Key Highlights of the Developing Situation

Profile Update on X: Official BJP spokesperson tag replaced with personal ideology descriptors.

Reshared Media Clips: Highlighted previous statements expressing a desire to step back from active politics post-2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Dual Profile Status: Instagram profile still displays his party title, indicating an ongoing transition across platforms.

Official Silence: Neither Poonawalla nor the BJP leadership has issued a formal press release clarifying his organizational status.

Context of His Role in the BJP

Poonawalla joined the BJP in December 2017 after a public falling out with the Indian National Congress over internal election mechanics. Over nine years, he emerged as one of the party’s most prominent faces in prime-time media debates and was appointed head of the Delhi BJP’s media wing in 2021 before serving as a national spokesperson.
