Congress leader Ambika Soni has construed that , the next chief minister of Punjab has to be a ‘Sikh’, and not having a Sikh as a chief minister would have clear consequences , keeping in mind the upcoming assembly election due in Punjab.
As per the sources, Ms.Soni was offered to become the next Chief Minister , by her party colleague, Rahul Gandhi.
All these developments happened soon after the resignation of Amarinder Singh, popularly called as ‘Captain’.
As per the sources, Ms.Soni had declined the offer to become Punjab’s next Chief Minister at a late-night meeting with her party colleague and former President of INC , Rahul Gandhi.
Former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar, party state chief Navjot Singh Sidhu , minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Congress MP Partap Singh Bajwa are reportedly contenders for the coveted position. And Former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar, party state chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa are assumed to be the leading contenders and the new Chief Minister will be in tinder box once the leader takes the charge.
A resolution was passed that Sonia Gandhi’s decision will be final on this matter.
As per the sources, The three political observers of the party for Punjab are meeting with every MLA to get their point of view on the matter, and their report to the party high command for a decision on who would be the next Chief Minister. And many in the party are disappointed with the bad handling of the matter.
Punjab Congress working president Pawan Goel said, “A meeting of MLAs was held with Harish Rawat and Ajay Maken yesterday. Today, you will get to know her decision,”
