Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday transformed the concluding event of Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran’s statewide outreach tour into a full-fledged election pitch for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, asserting that the BJP-led NDA is confident of forming the next government in the state.

Addressing party workers and supporters, Shah mounted a sharp attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), accusing it of dynastic politics, corruption, and administrative failure. He said the people of Tamil Nadu were seeking an alternative and that the NDA was prepared to offer “clean and decisive governance”.

Targeting the DMK leadership, Shah remarked that power in the state has remained confined to one family for decades and challenged Chief Minister MK Stalin’s political ambitions, stating that the BJP would break the cycle of dynastic rule.

BJP Pushes NDA Unity in Tamil Nadu

The Home Minister reiterated the BJP’s commitment to a revived alliance with the AIADMK, describing it as a “natural alliance” rooted in shared political objectives. He claimed that the combined vote share of the NDA in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections demonstrated the alliance’s growing strength in Tamil Nadu.

Shah also emphasised issues related to governance, women’s safety, and cultural identity, stating that the BJP would take these concerns to voters across the state in the run-up to the Assembly polls.

Complex Alliance Landscape Ahead of 2026

The BJP’s aggressive push comes amid a fluid political landscape in Tamil Nadu, with internal differences within the AIADMK and uncertainty over the alignment of regional parties such as the PMK and DMDK. The recent entry of actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has further added to the evolving electoral dynamics.

Responding to the BJP’s criticism, the DMK rejected the allegations, asserting that it continues to uphold social justice and protect the interests of all communities in the state.
