Eminent Bollywood filmmaker and producer Sanjay Gupta, best known for his stylish action thrillers like Kaante and Kaabil, passed away late Friday night at the age of 57. According to industry reports, the filmmaker suffered a fatal head injury following a tragic fall at his residence.

His sudden and untimely demise has sent shockwaves across the Indian film fraternity, with prominent filmmakers, actors, and fans taking to social media to mourn the loss of a visionary storyteller.

A Career Defined by High-Octane Cinema

Born on April 14, 1959, Sanjay Gupta carved a distinct niche for himself in Hindi cinema with his signature stylized, slick, and high-octane action grammar. He made his directorial debut in 1994 with the action drama Aatish: Feel the Fire.

However, his career-defining moment came in 2002 with the release of Kaante. An unofficial, gritty adaptation of Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic Reservoir Dogs, the film starred an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, and Anil Kapoor, and remains a cult favorite for its slick direction and edgy soundtrack.

Over the decades, Gupta directed and produced several memorable commercial films. His notable filmography includes:

 Zinda (2006)

 Shootout at Wadala (2013)

Kaabil (2017) – A major box-office success starring Hrithik Roshan.

The Miranda Brothers (2024) – His final directorial venture.

As a producer under his banner, White Feather Films, he backed path-breaking multi-starrer and grit-driven projects such as Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007), Acid Factory (2009), and Plan (2004), actively paving the way for unique cinematic voices in Bollywood.
