The high-stakes box office battle scheduled for March 2026 is witnessing an unexpected twist. Industry whispers suggest that the highly anticipated sequel Dhurandhar 2, starring Ranveer Singh, may be pushed back from its original release date.
The potential delay stems from director Aditya Dhar’s reported decision to head back to the sets. Sources close to the production indicate that Dhar plans to reshoot several “key sequences” to further elevate the theatrical experience, following the massive global success of the first installment, which has already crossed the ₹1,250 crore mark.
The Return of Rehman Dakait
Adding significant weight to these reports is the return of Akshaye Khanna. Despite his character’s fate in the first film, Khanna is set to film a brief, one-week schedule. This additional shoot is designed to deepen his character’s backstory—Rehman Dakait—whose viral presence and nuanced performance became a standout highlight for audiences.
The production team reportedly felt that expanding Khanna’s arc would add necessary emotional layers to the sequel, even if it meant adjusting the rigorous post-production timeline.
‘Toxic’ Set to Claim the Throne?
If Dhurandhar 2 vacates its March 19, 2026 slot, the biggest beneficiary will undoubtedly be Yash and his pan-India actioner, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-ups.
Previously braced for a head-on collision—a clash recently dubbed “Dhuroxic” by filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma—the exit of Dhurandhar 2 would grant Toxic:
• Screen Dominance: A near-monopoly over single screens and multiplexes across the Hindi and South belts.
• Solo Run: Minimal competition during the lucrative holiday window of Gudi Padwa and Eid.
• Higher Opening Potential: Without divided footfalls, Yash’s first film since the KGF series could eye record-breaking opening numbers.
While the makers of Dhurandhar 2 are yet to issue a formal statement regarding a new date, the trade circuit is already betting on a “tilted scale” in favor of the Rocking Star.
