The much-awaited prequel to Rishab Shetty’s 2022 blockbuster Kantara is already creating a storm online. Titled Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, the film has now revealed the first look of acclaimed actor Gulshan Devaiah as Kulashekara, a royal character who promises to add depth and intensity to the saga.
In the striking poster, Gulshan sits regally on a throne, adorned with ornate jewellery, kingly attire, and a crown that instantly sets the tone for a power-packed role. The prequel, both directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, is set to release on October 2, 2025.
The announcement quickly caught the attention of Bollywood celebrities, with stars like Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Meiyang Chang, and Wamiqa Gabbi showering praise in the comments after Gulshan shared the look on Instagram.
This update comes shortly after Rishab Shetty confirmed that the film’s shoot had been completed. While details remain under wraps, Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 is expected to transport audiences into the mystical origins of the story introduced in the first film. Earlier, on his 42nd birthday, Rishab’s own intense warrior look was unveiled, teasing a gripping backstory filled with folklore and drama.
The original Kantara, set in the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada, revolved around the clash between a Kambala champion and a principled Forest Range officer. Its blend of mythology, culture, and raw storytelling turned it into a pan-India sensation, earning Shetty the National Award for Best Actor. With the prequel, fans can expect an even more immersive dive into the legend that captured the nation’s imagination.
