Kamal Haasan Faces Death Threat After Sanatan Dharma Remarks, BJP Calls for Boycott

New Delhi Chronicle Entertainment Desk

Chennai: Veteran Tamil actor and Rajya Sabha MP Kamal Haasan has landed in a fresh controversy after his recent comments on Sanatan Dharma drew sharp criticism, boycott calls, and even a death threat from a fellow actor.

The storm began when Haasan, speaking at the 15th anniversary event of actor Suriya’s NGO, criticised the Centre over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Stressing the transformative power of education, he remarked, “Only education can change the nation. It is the only weapon capable of breaking the chains of dictatorship and Sanatan.”

Haasan urged people not to resort to violence, saying that weapons would not help win the battle against what he called “majoritarianism,” warning that “ignorant majoritarians will defeat you.”

However, the remarks triggered outrage in certain political and religious circles. In a YouTube interview, actor Ravichandran lashed out at Haasan, calling him a “naive” politician and going as far as to threaten to “slit” his throat. The statement has raised serious concerns among Haasan’s fans regarding his safety.

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Tamil Nadu unit has also reacted strongly. BJP state secretary Amar Prasad Reddy accused Haasan of wanting to “destroy” Sanatan Dharma, drawing parallels with earlier remarks by minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. He urged the public to boycott Haasan’s films, whether released in theatres or on OTT platforms.

The controversy marks yet another flashpoint in the ongoing political and cultural debates around Sanatan Dharma in Tamil Nadu, with reactions spilling over onto social media and beyond.
