DMK Leader’s Remarks on Kamaraj Spark Controversy; CM Stalin Steps In

Political circles in Tamil Nadu abuzz as remarks on late Congress leader stir debate

A political storm has erupted in Tamil Nadu following remarks by DMK Deputy General Secretary and Member of Parliament, Trichy Siva, about the late Congress leader and former Chief Minister K Kamaraj. The comments have drawn sharp reactions from opposition parties, who have accused the DMK of attempting to misrepresent Kamaraj’s legacy.

Speaking at a public event, Trichy Siva reflected on the relationship between DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi and Kamaraj. He claimed that Karunanidhi had ordered the installation of air-conditioners in places where Kamaraj stayed, citing the latter’s reported allergy. “Even though they belonged to rival parties, Karunanidhi made the gesture out of respect,” Siva said.

The remarks have not gone down well with leaders from other political parties, who view the statement as a distortion of historical facts and an attempt to appropriate the legacy of the widely respected Congress leader.

Amid the growing controversy, Chief Minister MK Stalin stepped in, appealing for political restraint and recalling Kamaraj’s contributions to Tamil Nadu’s development. In a measured response, Stalin emphasized the importance of preserving the dignity of leaders across party lines and urged all sides to maintain decorum in political discourse.
