Bengali Actor Sumi Har Choudhry Found Wandering, Rescued by Police

NDC DESK

On Monday, July 14, 2025, emerging Bengali actor Sumi Har Choudhry was found wandering along the Bardhaman–Arambagh state highway, in Purba Bardhaman district, West Bengal. Locals spotted her sitting by the roadside near Amila Bazar, dressed in shorts and a black full-sleeved shirt, holding a pen and paper and speaking incoherently in both Bengali and English.

Concerned residents informed the police, who arrived promptly, verified her identity, and took her to a local shelter home for safety. Sub‑Divisional Police Officer Abhishek Mandal confirmed that efforts are underway to locate her family, and Kolkata’s Behala police station has been alerted.

Known for her roles in the crime thriller Dwitiyo Purush (directed by Srijit Mukherji), TV serials like Rupsagore Moner Manush and Tumi Ashe Pashe Thakle, and the bilingual film Khashi Katha: A Goat Saga opposite Naseeruddin Shah, Choudhry has largely played supporting roles over the past decade.

Eyewitnesses said Choudhry repeatedly referred to herself as an actress, a claim later confirmed when locals matched her identity online. She gave inconsistent accounts of her origin—at times claiming roots in Kolkata, and other times mentioning Bolpur in Birbhum—but authorities confirmed she is a resident of Behala in Kolkata and may have spent time in Bolpur.

The circumstances leading to her being found in Purba Bardhaman remain unclear. The police are now working to reunite her with her family and understand the events preceding her unexpected appearance on the highway.
