Andhra Pradesh Drone Delivery Network: APDC and Airbound Sign Deal for 10,000 Daily Flights

By Political Bureau, New Delhi Chronicle

NEW DELHI: In a major boost to India’s aerial logistics infrastructure, the Andhra Pradesh Drone Corporation (APDC) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru-based aerospace startup Airbound to establish a massive, scalable drone delivery network across the Amaravati Capital Region.

The agreement was signed on Thursday in the national capital in the presence of Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu. The pact was formalized by APDC Chairperson and Managing Director Geetanjali Sharma and Airbound Founder and CEO Naman Pushp.

Connecting the Amaravati Capital Region

The ambitious project, named the Amaravati Capital Region Drone Delivery Network (ACR DDN), is designed to seamlessly integrate logistics across healthcare, e-commerce, and commercial sectors. The initial phase of the network will establish interconnected drone corridors linking major urban hubs, including Amaravati, Vijayawada, and Guntur.

According to officials, pilot operations are scheduled to commence in Guntur. Over the coming year, both entities aim to scale operations to log over 10,000 daily drone flights across Andhra Pradesh. Achieving this target would position the state as one of the largest commercial drone networks globally.

Disruptive Technology Slashing Logistics Costs

Central to the Andhra Pradesh drone delivery network is Airbound’s proprietary blended-wing-body tailsitter aircraft. Built entirely from lightweight carbon fiber, the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) weighs a mere 1.5 kg.

Crucially, the aircraft breaks industry norms with an efficient 1.5:1 payload-to-weight ratio, a drastic improvement over the conventional 4:1 industry standard. This cutting-edge design allows the platform to slash traditional transit costs up to 20 times, bringing delivery expenses down to an unprecedented 10 paise per kilometer.

Driving Sovereignty and Economic Growth

Speaking at the event, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu lauded the initiative, stating that Airbound’s trajectory highlights India’s sovereign capabilities in next-generation aviation. He emphasized that scaling such indigenous, state-of-the-art technology will drive real-world connectivity, foster high-skilled job creation, and catalyze regional economic growth.

APDC Chairperson Geetanjali Sharma remarked that the partnership is actively laying the foundation for a revolutionized logistics architecture in Andhra Pradesh. “By combining Airbound’s pioneering technology with the state’s advanced infrastructure, we ensure that local businesses and residents reap the early benefits of drone-enabled services, advancing our goal to make Andhra Pradesh a premier global destination for tech innovation,” Sharma said.

Airbound CEO Naman Pushp highlighted how the initiative fundamentally alters the physical economics of freight movement. “Instead of traditional logistics centered around large, expensive vehicles, our goal is to build an open-source grid where autonomous drones transport single packages point-to-point with the cost-efficiency of a 20-tonne truck,” Pushp explained.

Revolutionizing Healthcare and Emergencies

Beyond commercial e-commerce, the network is poised to dramatically accelerate emergency healthcare transits. Airbound brings strong expertise to the table, having already successfully executed more than 1,000 medical flights for Narayana Health in Bengaluru.

As part of the immediate rollout, Airbound will undertake rigorous route mapping and regulatory coordination with aviation authorities to establish safe, efficient, and interconnected drone corridors across the capital region.
