New Delhi, October 8, 2025:
In a significant endorsement of India’s growing digital ecosystem, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reportedly begun using Zoho Mail, the homegrown email service developed by Chennai-based software company Zoho Corporation, for his official communication.
Sources close to the Ministry of Home Affairs indicated that the decision reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to promote indigenous technology platforms under the Digital India and Make in India initiatives. The move also highlights the increasing trust in Indian-developed secure communication tools over foreign counterparts.
Zoho Mail, known for its data privacy, ad-free interface, and robust security protocols, is widely used by businesses, educational institutions, and government bodies across India. Experts suggest that this adoption could encourage more government departments to transition to locally built software systems.
Speaking on the development, Zoho Corporation founder and CEO Sridhar Vembu expressed gratitude, saying, “It’s an honor to see our country’s leaders trusting Indian technology. Zoho remains committed to building privacy-focused, secure, and scalable solutions for India and the world.”
The move by Amit Shah is being seen as a symbolic yet impactful step towards promoting digital self-reliance, aligning with the government’s broader push to strengthen India’s technology sovereignty and reduce dependency on global tech giants.
