New Delhi Chronicle Sports Bureau

Ahmedabad, October 4, 2025 — In a commanding display of cricketing dominance, India wrapped up the first Test against West Indies within three days, winning by an innings and 140 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium. With this victory, India takes a 1–0 lead in the two-match.

India declared their innings on 448 for 5, riding on centuries from KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravindra Jadeja.

Jurel notched his maiden Test century with a fluent 125.

Jadeja remained unbeaten on 104 and also played a crucial all-round role later with the ball.

Rahul ended a long home-century drought as he scored 100 — his second Test hundred on Indian soil.

India’s decision to declare at the overnight score of 448/5 (holding a 286-run lead) was a deliberate move to exploit any morning seam or spin assistance the pitch might offer.

After bundling out West Indies for 162 in the first innings, India’s bowlers delivered another knockout punch by dismissing them for 146 in their second innings.

Ravindra Jadeja claimed 4 for 54 in the second innings and was crowned Player of the Match.

Mohammed Siraj also impressed, finishing with a seven-wicket match haul across both innings.

India’s fielders backed their bowlers with sharp catches and athletic stops.

West Indies’ top order never found a grip. Their captain Roston Chase admitted that the failure to build substantial partnerships underpinned their collapse.

This dominant win comes after a disappointing run of form for India in away conditions. The emphatic manner in which they conquered West Indies at home sends a strong statement ahead of the next Test in Delhi starting October 10.
In terms of the ICC World Test Championship, India gains valuable traction. Their points percentage (PCT) has climbed to 55.56%, bringing them closer to a top-two finish in the cycle.
Captain Shubman Gill, who scored a composed 50 in the first innings, described the match as a “perfect game.” While he expressed mild disappointment at not converting his start further, he heaped praise on his teammates who delivered when it mattered.
