Emergency Landing: IndiGo Flight Diverts Safely to Mumbai Due to Engine Failure

NDC DESK

Mumbai, July 16, 2025 — An IndiGo Airbus A320NEO, operating flight 6E‑6271 from Delhi to Goa (Mopa), made an emergency diversion to Mumbai tonight after suffering an engine failure mid‑air. The aircraft, registered VT‑IZB, departed Delhi at 8:02 PM IST and experienced a malfunction in one of its engines during the flight ().

Relying on its twin‑engine design engineered to sustain single‑engine operation, the crew diverted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai, where they safely landed just before 10 PM IST . All passengers and crew disembarked without any reported injuries.

IndiGo has confirmed that the A320NEO executed a standard one-engine-out procedure and prioritised safety above all. Flight trackers noted the aircraft took off about 30 minutes behind schedule and was directed to Mumbai approximately two hours after departure .

Aircraft experts emphasize that modern twin-engine planes are thoroughly tested to handle such scenarios, and pilots undergo frequent training to manage these emergencies. This incident once again highlights the robustness of aircraft design and the proficiency of commercial flight crews in responding swiftly to in-flight malfunctions.

What happened, step by step:
1. Flight 6E‑6271 took off from Delhi at 8:02 PM IST.
2. During climb, one engine failed — a rare but manageable emergency.
3. Pilots diverted to Mumbai, landing safely before 10 PM IST.
4. Aircraft remained stable throughout, passenger and crew safety ensured.

The Bottom Line: A technical malfunction prompted a cautious—and correct—emergency landing. Thanks to industry-standard protocols and pilot training, the incident was resolved without any harm to those on board.
