Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra on Monday moved the Bombay High Court seeking to quash the FIR filed against him over his “traitor” jibe at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, during his show ‘Naya Bharat’.
Kamra’s petition will be mentioned for early hearing on Monday, by senior counsel Navroj Servai and advocate Ashwin Thool before the bench of Justices Sarang Kotwal and SM Modak.
Kunal claimed in his petition that the complaints lodged against him were violation of his fundamental rights of freedom of speech and expression, right to practice any profession and business and right to life and liberty guaranteed under the Constitution of India
On March 23, Sunday , In his show, Kunal took a jibe at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Shinde using a satirical version of a Hindi song ‘’ Bholi si Surat ,Ankh mein masti ‘’ where he called him a traitor and later uploaded it on YouTube .
Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel filed a complaint against Kunal with the police . He was booked under sections 353(1)(b) and 356(2).
