Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and D.K. Shivakumar unveiled the ‘Pyari Didi’ scheme, promising ₹2,500 monthly financial aid to every woman in Delhi immediately after the party comes to power. This scheme aims to counter the AAP government’s welfare narrative and regain lost ground in the capital during the upcoming Assembly elections.
“This guarantee will be our first cabinet decision after forming the government in Delhi,” Shivakumar said, drawing parallels with Karnataka’s successful ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ initiative, which provides economic relief to women facing financial challenges.
He highlighted the Congress government’s proven track record, citing schemes like financial aid and free public transport for women in Karnataka, implemented within three months of taking office. “We deliver what we promise. We have implemented all five guarantees promised in Karnataka, and Delhi will witness a similar transformation,” he declared.
Shivakumar also criticized the BJP for mocking Congress’ “guarantees” while replicating similar models in Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Maharashtra. Notably, the ‘Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana’ was pivotal in leading the Mahayuti government to a huge mandate in Maharashtra.
Delhi Congress Chief Devender Yadav took a swipe at AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for failing to deliver on promises such as education reforms, free electricity, and water.
Congress invited Shivakumar to announce the schemes as his government in Karnataka stands as a testimony on these schemes which is a huge success there .
Congress is eager to reclaim its footing in Delhi’s competitive political arena and aims to achieve this by blending public welfare with women’s empowerment.
After 15 years in power, the Congress has struggled in Delhi, failing to win any seats in the last two Assembly elections. With the elections likely in February, the party hopes this guarantee will resonate with women voters, a crucial demographic.
