Amit Sadh Calls ‘Pratap’ a Complex Role, Esha Deol Highlights Women’s Strength in New Action Drama

By Entertainment Bureau | New Delhi Chronicle

NEW DELHI: The official trailer for the upcoming action-drama film Pratap has officially dropped, offering audiences a gritty look into a story that extends far beyond a standard police procedural. Starring Amit Sadh and Esha Deol, the film dives deep into the high-stakes world of law enforcement while exploring the raw, emotional toll it takes on family dynamics.

Speaking exclusively about the project, lead actor Amit Sadh opened up about why this character stood out from his previous roles—most notably his acclaimed performance as Inspector Sawant in Breathe.

“As an actor, we always look for a challenge,” Sadh shared. “I like characters who have a lot of complexity, fragility, and where your psychology, principles, and value systems are questioned.”

Sadh revealed that director and writer Sachin Saraf was intentional about helping him break away from his past cop persona. “When I met Sachin sir for the first time, he told me, ‘I don’t want the one from Breathe with me.’ That is where our journey started to find a completely new body language and emotional core.”

He also emphasized that Pratap bridges a vital gap in typical law enforcement or military dramas by shining a light on the domestic lives of officers. “We don’t show the family much,” Sadh noted, pointing out how the narrative balances high-octane action with grounded human vulnerability.

Esha Deol on Playing a Strong Female Lead

Esha Deol, who steps into the role of Poonam—Pratap’s wife—described the movie as an emotionally resonant experience designed to connect deeply with viewers.

“This is not an ordinary cop’s story. Cops are not ordinary; they are our real-life heroes,” Deol said. She highlighted how the narrative zeroes in on the collateral emotional pressure faced by those standing beside the badge, including wives and children.

Sharing her motivation for signing onto the project, Deol added, “As a woman, to play a role like this at this point in my career, I felt it was very mature and nice to take up. Every woman has power. So how will you maintain it? How will you move it forward? This character carries a very strong message for female audiences.”

What to Expect from ‘Pratap’

Helmed by writer-director Sachin Saraf, Pratap traces the dramatic rise, sudden downfall, and ultimate fight for redemption of an upright police officer. The trailer shifts compellingly between past authority and present imprisonment behind bars, raising high-stakes questions about the conspiracy and circumstances leading to his arrest.

The star-studded ensemble cast also features seasoned talents like Seema Biswas, Tigmanshu Dhulia, and Milind Gunaji.

Produced by Pradeep Rangwani and presented by UV Films, Pratap is slated for a theatrical release on November 20, 2026.
