India Crush England by 336 Runs at Edgbaston, Level Series 1-1

NDC DESK

Edgbaston, Birmingham – July 7:
India registered a historic 336-run victory over England on Day 5 of the second Test at Edgbaston, leveling the five-match series 1-1. This commanding win marks India’s first-ever Test triumph at the iconic Birmingham venue, breaking a 58-year drought that included seven losses and one draw in eight previous attempts.

Leading from the front, Shubman Gill delivered a career-defining performance with a monumental match tally of 430 runs—scoring 269 in the first innings and following it up with a fluent 161 in the second. His consistency and leadership under pressure were pivotal to India’s dominance throughout the Test.

In the bowling department, young pacer Akash Deep stepped up in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, claiming 10 wickets in the match. His six-wicket haul in the final innings helped dismantle England’s batting line-up and sealed India’s emphatic win. Mohammed Siraj also played a crucial role, contributing with seven wickets across both innings.

The pitch at Edgbaston offered ideal conditions for batting early on, but India’s bowlers extracted just enough from the surface as the match progressed to turn the tide decisively in their favor.

With this victory, India not only levels the series but also sends a strong message heading into the remaining three Tests. The third match is now poised to be a pivotal encounter in what is shaping up to be an electrifying series between two cricketing heavyweights.
