Mid-Air Scare on SpiceJet Flight as Cabin Window Frame Comes Loose

NDC DESK

No compromise on safety, says airline; DGCA alerted

Passengers on a SpiceJet flight from Goa to Pune experienced a mid-air scare on Tuesday when a cabin window frame came loose during the journey. A video shared by a passenger captured the dislodged interior frame hanging loosely, sparking concern among those onboard.

The airline, however, assured that the incident posed no risk to passenger safety. In a statement released on Wednesday, SpiceJet clarified that the affected component was purely cosmetic and had no impact on the aircraft’s structural integrity or cabin pressurisation.

“The loose part was a cosmetic window frame on one of our Q400 aircraft,” the statement read. “It is a non-structural trim piece meant to support the window shade and does not play any role in the aircraft’s safety systems.”

SpiceJet added that the aircraft’s multi-layer window system includes a robust outer pane built to withstand pressure variations at altitude. The cabin remained fully pressurised throughout the flight, and safety protocols were not compromised, the airline confirmed.

The flight, SG1080, landed safely in Pune, where engineering staff promptly secured the dislodged component. Despite the airline’s reassurances, the incident sparked online discussion after a concerned passenger posted the video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), tagging the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and questioning the aircraft’s airworthiness.

“This window just fell off mid-flight,” the passenger wrote. “And now this aircraft is scheduled to fly to Jaipur. Is it even safe?”

There has been no official response yet from the DGCA regarding the matter.
